Personal number & ID
After you receive your ID card
Your ID card unlocks the next steps: bank account, BankID and Swish. Here is the order to do them in, and how to look after the card.
Next steps
- If it applies to you
The e-ID on the card
The card contains an electronic ID (e-legitimation). A letter with a PUK code comes to your home address; the first time you use it you choose a PIN. It needs a computer and a card reader, so most people use BankID instead. If you lose the PIN, order a new PUK code on 0771-567 567. A blocked PUK cannot be replaced — you would need a new card.
Keep it safe
The card is valuable to fraudsters. Never send a photo of it to someone you do not know, and never give your BankID codes to anyone. If it is lost or stolen, see I lost my ID or passport.
