Problems, Emergencies and Common Situations
Calm, direct steps for when something goes wrong.
I need help urgently
If someone’s life or safety is in danger, call 112 now. For everything else, this page tells you who to call.
I lost my passport
Report it to the Swedish police, then book an appointment with the Embassy of Pakistan in Stockholm for a replacement.
I lost my residence permit card
Report it to the police, send a copy of the report to Migrationsverket, and wait for a letter about booking new photos and fingerprints.
I lost my keys
Call your landlord’s emergency number if you are locked out, and report lost tags at once so nobody else can use them.
I lost my phone
Your phone holds BankID and Swish. Block them first, then the SIM card, then report it.
My BankID stopped working
Most BankID problems are fixed by updating the app, checking it has not expired, or ordering a new one from your bank.
I received a Swedish letter I don’t understand
Do not ignore it. Find out who sent it, whether there is a deadline, and get it explained — for free if needed.
I received an unexpected invoice
If you did not order it, object in writing straight away — and keep objecting. Never ignore a claim from Kronofogden.
I cannot access my medical records
Your records are normally readable in 1177 with BankID. If something is missing or you have no BankID, ask the clinic.
My landlord is not fixing a problem
Report in writing, keep a log, ask for a rent reduction in writing — and never withhold rent on your own.
I want to report a theft
Report most thefts online at polisen.se or by calling 114 14. Call 112 if it is happening now.
I missed an important appointment
Contact them the same day, explain, and rebook. Missed healthcare appointments usually cost a fee.
I need an interpreter
Healthcare and authorities arrange interpreters when you need one — tell them when you book. In healthcare it is free for you.
My employer hasn’t paid me
Ask in writing, get your union involved, and if needed apply to Kronofogden for a payment order. If the employer goes bankrupt, the wage guarantee may pay.
I received a parking fine
First check which kind it is. A municipal street fine is paid first and contested with the police; a private car park fine is disputed in writing with the company.
My bus or train was cancelled
You may be entitled to compensation for delays of 20 minutes or more. Claim in writing and keep your ticket.
My personal number is delayed
Check the published processing time, your mailbox and your identity check — then contact Skatteverket with your receipt.
