Banking without a personnummer
Waiting for your personnummer, or staying less than a year? You can still have a payment account — but expect a slower process, and no BankID until you have a personnummer.
What is possible

| Basic payment account | Yes — a legal right if you live legally in the EEA. Not having a personnummer is not, alone, a reason to refuse. |
| Identification | A foreign passport with your photo and citizenship. Banks decide which further documents they need. |
| BankID | No — BankID currently requires a Swedish personnummer. |
| Swish | No — it needs BankID. |
| Opening online | Usually not — the digital ID check needs a Swedish passport or national ID card. |

Once you get your personnummer
Tell the bank your new personnummer and show your ID card so they can update your details, then ask for Mobile BankID.
