Reading a Swedish invoice
This is what the important parts of a typical invoice look like. Names differ between companies, but the Swedish words are the same:
| Swedish label | English | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Fakturadatum | Invoice date | 2026-10-01 |
| Förfallodatum / Att betala senast | Due date — pay by this day | 2026-10-31 |
| Att betala | Amount to pay | 549,00 kr |
| Bankgiro (BG) | The company’s Bankgiro number | 5555-5555 |
| Plusgiro (PG) | Alternative to Bankgiro | 12 34 56-7 |
| OCR-nummer / Referens | Payment reference that identifies your invoice | 1234567890123 |
| Kundnummer | Your customer number | 445566 |
| Moms | VAT included in the amount | 109,80 kr |
How to pay
Open “Pay” in your bank app
Choose to pay a bill or invoice (betala räkning). Many apps can scan the invoice with the camera.
Enter the Bankgiro or Plusgiro number
The app shows the company’s name — check it matches the invoice.
Enter the OCR number exactly
If there is an OCR number, the message field is usually locked. A wrong OCR can mean the payment is not matched to you.
Enter the amount and a payment date
Pay a couple of bank days before the due date.
Approve with BankID
Then keep the invoice until the payment shows as done.
Watch out
Unpaid invoices lead to reminders, fees and interest, then possibly a debt collection agency and a payment remark (betalningsanmärkning) that can stop you renting a flat or getting a phone contract. If you cannot pay, contact the company before the due date.
