Renting a room
Living as a lodger (inneboende) is the most common first home for newcomers. Here is what is fair and what to agree on.
The rules
- The rent should match the part of the home you actually use; furniture can add at most 15%, and utilities only what they actually cost.
- If you use the whole flat on your own, it counts as second-hand renting, with the stricter rules that go with it.
- A deposit of one or two months’ rent is common; it must be written in the contract and returned when you move out if nothing is damaged.
- Check with the person you rent from that you can register your address there.
