Housing
Electricity and internet
Many rentals include electricity or internet. If yours does not, you need a grid contract, an electricity supplier, and an internet subscription.
Electricity
Check your contract
Is electricity included in the rent? If yes, you can skip this.
Contact the local grid company
You have two contracts: a grid contract (elnätsavtal) with the local grid company, which you cannot choose, and an electricity contract (elhandelsavtal) with any supplier you like.
Choose a supplier
Compare on Elpriskollen. If you do not choose, the grid company assigns one (anvisat avtal) — usually expensive, but you can leave it with at most 14 days’ notice.
When you move out
Cancel the grid contract in good time (often a month before) and tell your supplier.
Internet
Many buildings have fibre already installed: you choose a provider through the building’s network portal. Ask the landlord which network your building uses. Mobile broadband or your phone’s data can bridge the first weeks. Most fixed contracts need a personnummer and a credit check.
