Housing queues
In big cities, first-hand flats go to whoever has queued longest. Join on day one — even if you do not need a flat yet.
How queues work
- You register an account and your queue time starts counting. Some queues charge a yearly fee to keep your place.
- You apply for (“register interest in”) flats you like. Among applicants who meet the landlord’s conditions — usually income — the one with the longest queue time gets the offer.
- Answer offers on time: missing deadlines can cost you your place.
- Queue times in central Stockholm and Gothenburg can be many years; newer buildings and suburbs are faster.
