Healthcare
Healthcare for students
Your rights depend on whether you are registered in Sweden. Fee-paying students usually have Kammarkollegiet insurance through their university; everyone else should plan for the time before registration.
Your situation
| Situation | What applies |
|---|---|
| Permit for 1 year or more, registered with a personnummer | Same healthcare fees as everyone living in Sweden |
| Permit for 1 year or more, not yet registered | You may pay the full cost until you are registered — keep your insurance |
| Exchange of less than 1 year, from outside the EU/EEA | Generally pay the full cost; rely on your insurance |
| Fee-paying student | Usually covered by Kammarkollegiet’s FAS insurance, which your university orders |
Student health services
Most universities have a student health service (studenthälsan) for counselling, stress, study-related health and lifestyle questions. It does not replace a vårdcentral for illness — for that, go to a vårdcentral.
