Healthcare
Healthcare for children
From birth to school age, BVC follows your child’s health and vaccinations. School health takes over after that. Covered medicines and dental care are free for children.
BVC: child health centres
The child health centre (barnavårdscentral, BVC) offers regular check-ups, vaccinations, and advice on growth, food and sleep for children from birth until they start school. It is free. When you register a newly arrived child, contact your local BVC so the child can catch up on Swedish vaccinations.
Costs
- Covered prescription medicines: free under 18.
- Dental care: free up to and including the year they turn 19.
- Visit fees: set by your region — check its 1177 page.
- Seriously ill child? In some regions you should call 1177 before going to a children’s emergency department (barnakut).
