YKB: professional driver competence
To carry goods by truck or passengers by bus professionally you need a YKB certificate on top of your C or D licence: basic training and a test, then 35 hours of further training every five years.

A licence is not enough
A C or D licence proves you can drive the vehicle. YKB (yrkeskompetensbevis) proves you have the professional competence to transport goods or passengers for work: rational and safe driving, the legal framework, health, service and logistics. Employers will ask for it.

Keeping it: further training
Every five years you complete 35 hours of further training (fortbildning) with an approved provider to get a new certificate. It can be split into courses of at least 7 hours, and since 1 September 2026 at most 12 hours may be distance learning. Finish at least 30 days before your certificate expires.
