Driving and rest times, tachographs
Professional truck and bus drivers must follow EU driving and rest time rules and record them with a tachograph.
The main rules
| Rule | Limit |
|---|---|
| Daily driving | Maximum 9 hours — 10 hours twice a week |
| Break | At least 45 minutes after 4.5 hours of driving (can be split: 15 min then 30 min) |
| Daily rest | Normally 11 hours; can be reduced to 9 hours at most three times between weekly rests |
| Split daily rest | First part at least 3 hours, last part at least 9 hours |
Your driving, breaks and rest are recorded by the tachograph, using your personal driver card. Trafikverket takes the photo for a tachograph card (SEK 200).
