Private practice and supervisors
Practising with a family member or friend saves a lot of money. Since 1 August 2026 no introduction course is needed — but your supervisor must be approved.
The rules
| Requirement | |
|---|---|
| Learner | At least 16, with a valid learner’s permit |
| Supervisor | At least 24, valid Swedish or EEA licence for the vehicle, held at least five of the last ten years, approved by Transportstyrelsen for you |
| Introduction course | No longer required (removed from 1 August 2026) |
| Car | Must show the green and white ÖVNINGSKÖR sign at the back |
| During practice | The supervisor carries the approval |
How to get started
You hold a learner’s permit
See learner’s permit.
The supervisor applies
In Transportstyrelsen’s e-service, naming you as the learner.
Wait for approval
Do not practise until the supervisor is approved.
Plan the practice
Combine practice with a few lessons so a teacher can correct habits early.
