Getting started
Welcome to Sweden
You made it. This guide walks you through everything after the airport — in the order you will need it — so you do not have to search ten websites or visit an office twice.
How things work here
Three things shape almost everything in Sweden:
- Your registered address and personnummer. Skatteverket’s register is the backbone of Swedish life — bank, healthcare, housing and salary all connect to it.
- BankID. Once you have it, most errands are done online in minutes.
- Letters and apps. Authorities write by post or digital mailbox and expect you to read and act. Put your name on your mailbox on day one.
