Everyday life
Card payments, receipts and opening hours
Sweden is mostly cashless, shops are open every day, and you should keep receipts for returns and complaints.
Good to know
- Cards and phones work almost everywhere; some shops and cafés do not accept cash at all. Keep a little cash for emergencies.
- Receipts (kvitto): keep them for returns, complaints and warranty — a photo of the receipt is useful too.
- Opening hours: most supermarkets are open every day, often into the evening. Smaller shops close earlier on Saturdays and some close on Sundays. Hours are shorter around public holidays such as Christmas and Midsummer.
- Tipping is not expected; rounding up for good service is fine.
