Education & Swedish
Libraries
Every municipality has a public library, and borrowing books and other media is free — including books in other languages and easy Swedish.
What you get
- Every municipality must have a public library, open to everyone.
- Borrowing is free, whatever the format — books, audiobooks or e-books. Libraries may charge for copies, postage and similar services, and for items returned late.
- Libraries must offer literature in languages other than Swedish and in easy Swedish (lättläst).
- Libraries help people use computers and the internet to learn and take part in society.
What else your library offers — study spaces, language cafés, homework help, opening hours and what you need for a library card — differs between municipalities. Check your municipality’s library website.
