Marriage and civil registration
A marriage from Pakistan is registered by showing Skatteverket the marriage certificate. Marrying in Sweden starts with a free impediment check.
Married in Pakistan or elsewhere
Show Skatteverket the certificate of the marriage — usually when you notify your move. Skatteverket decides whether the foreign marriage is valid in Sweden and, if so, registers it. Ask Skatteverket in advance whether your documents need legalisation or translation.
Getting married in Sweden
Apply for an impediment check (hindersprövning)
Free. Online if you are both registered in Sweden and have e-ID; otherwise form SKV 7880.
Not registered in Sweden?
You need documents from your country showing you are over 18, not closely related and not already married.
Hold the ceremony within four months
The certificate is valid four months and cannot be extended. The officiant must be authorised: a priest or other official of a religious community that Kammarkollegiet has appointed as an officiant, or a civil officiant appointed by the county administrative board (länsstyrelsen).
