Parental leave and child benefits
Child allowance is SEK 1,250 a month per child. Parental benefit gives 480 days per child — fewer if the child moves here after turning 1.

Parental benefit (föräldrapenning)
- 480 days per child: 390 days based on your income, 90 days at SEK 180 a day.
- If the child becomes resident in Sweden at age 1 or older, at most 200 days.
- Can be used until the child turns 12 or finishes year 5; after the 4th birthday only 96 days can be saved.
- Up to 45 days can be transferred to another carer, such as a grandparent.
- Apply within 90 days of your first parental-benefit day.
