Before you travel · Task 3 of 6
Plan money, phone and insurance
Keep working payment and communication options for the weeks before Swedish banking is ready.
What to do
Sweden is largely cashless, but a Swedish bank account and BankID may take time. Plan a bridge between the two countries.
- Enable international use on a Pakistani debit or credit card and bring a second payment method. Tell the bank your travel dates if it uses travel notices.
- Keep enough accessible money for housing, food, transport and deposits during the first month. Do not carry large amounts of cash.
- Keep your Pakistani SIM active for banking codes and family contact. Check roaming, and prepare an unlocked phone for a Swedish prepaid SIM.
- Arrange travel insurance for the journey and the period before your Swedish coverage is clear. Students should check the university's insurance; workers should confirm the employment start and insurance date.
- Keep receipts showing the source of savings, tuition payments and large transfers. A Swedish bank may ask for them.
Steps
- Enable international card use and arrange a backup payment method
- Set aside the first month of living costs and an emergency buffer
- Keep the Pakistani SIM active and make sure the phone is unlocked
- Save proof of savings, tuition payments and large transfers
