Plan your move in the right order

You need a signed employment contract before applying. Good places to look:

• Platsbanken from Arbetsförmedlingen, Sweden's public job board.
• Company career pages — IT, engineering and healthcare recruit internationally.
• The Jobs section here, where members and verified employers post roles.

• From 1 June 2026 the salary must be at least 90% of the median salary. Based on the median published on 16 June 2026 (SEK 38,300), that is SEK 34,470 per month. Some professions only need 75%.
• The median in force on the day you apply is the one that counts.
• Salary, insurance and other terms must be at least on par with Swedish collective agreements or common practice in the profession.
• By your start date the employer must have health, life, industrial-injury and occupational pension insurance in place for you.

1. Your employer enters the job offer in Migrationsverket's e-service with your name, date of birth, citizenship and email.
2. You receive a link by email, complete your part and add any family members.
3. The application is only registered when you submit it.

Fees: SEK 2,200 for the employee, SEK 1,500 for each adult family member and SEK 750 for each child. Not refunded if refused.

Migrationsverket publishes how long 75% of cases took over the last 12 months:

• Highly qualified workers: about 1 month if complete, 2 months if not.
• Other employment: about 4 months if complete, 10 months if not.

The best way to speed things up is to submit everything correctly the first time.

After a positive decision, book your biometrics appointment with the Embassy of Sweden in Islamabad. The first permit is granted for up to two years — never longer than your contract or passport.

A spouse, registered or cohabiting partner and children under 21 can apply at the same time as you. You must meet a maintenance requirement for them.
