Most of daily life in Sweden runs through a few apps. Almost all of them need BankID, so get that first: personnummer → ID card → bank account → BankID.
- BankID — your digital ID, issued by your bank in its app. You use it to log in to authorities, banks and healthcare and to sign contracts.
- Your bank's app — payments, cards and where you order BankID.
- Swish — send money to people and pay many shops and sellers by phone number. Linked to your bank account.
- 1177 — book and message your vårdcentral, read your health records and renew prescriptions.
- Kivra — a digital mailbox. Many authorities and companies send letters here instead of by post.
- Skatteverket — your registered details, tax return and personnummer certificates.
- Your regional transport app — tickets and journey planning (see Public transport and travel cards).
Stay safe: never open BankID because someone phoned, texted or emailed you asking you to. Banks and authorities never ask for that. It is the most common scam in Sweden.
Not sure which app does what? Ask the community — someone in your city will have set it up recently.
