Pakistan to Sweden · Step by step
Choose how you are moving first. Follow the application and permit steps, then switch to the arrival checklist once your move is confirmed.
After your permit is approved
Once you land, your personal identity number (personnummer) unlocks almost everything else. Do these in order.
Staying a year or more? Register to get your personnummer.
If you plan to live in Sweden for one year or more, notify the Swedish Tax Agency (Skatteverket) of your move.
Staying less than a year? You may get a coordination number (samordningsnummer) instead.

Once you have a personnummer you can apply for a Skatteverket ID card. A coordination number is not enough.

BankID is your digital ID for banks, authorities and apps.
Most banks need your personnummer and a Swedish ID card to open an account. Once you have an account, your bank can issue BankID, which you use to log in to authorities, pay with Swish and sign contracts.

A Pakistani licence stops being valid one year after you register.
A Pakistani licence cannot be exchanged for a Swedish one. It is valid in Sweden only until you have been registered here for more than one year. After that you need a Swedish licence — learner permit, theory test and driving test. See the Driving licences guides.
